This is for the purchase of one spruce soundpost. These soundposts are typically 6.1-6.2mm and have plenty of excess length for any violin.
All these soundposts have been sorted by our luthier who specialises in setups. If you have any requirements let us know! The following is how we grade them:
High quality:
These soundposts will typically have 9-12+ rings and will be straight in their grain orientation. These selected soundposts will usually have the best overall finishing.
Standard quality:
These soundposts will have 5-8 rings and with an acceptable grain orientation. There are some posts in this grade with 10+ rings, but may have less-straight grain orientation or may have cosmetic markings which don’t affect anything important. The surface finishings will be acceptable, possibly less-perfectly circular.
Student luthier quality:
These soundposts are intended for student luthiers who want to practice fitting, or for fitting a post for a low-value instrument. Most of these posts usually have less than 5 rings (some have more) and have features which stopped them from being graded higher. For example, the surfaces may be rougher or aren’t finished circular enough to be used by professionals. You may get lucky and receive a post which is generally nicer-seeming than its given grade!
